There are a variety of reasons for submental fullness. In some patients, it is the inescapable result of genetics. In other patients, it can be simply age and weight gain.
Injected beneath the chin, Kybella® utilizes synthetic deoxycholic acid – a naturally occurring molecule that helps break down and absorb dietary adipose tissue – to destroy fat cells on contact. Once destroyed, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat resulting in a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin.
Before starting treatment, your Skincredible provider will examine the area under and around your chin to determine if Kybella® is right for you. As each patient’s chin profile and concerns are different, the number of treatments may vary from patient to patient. Patient’s should discuss with their Skincredible provider the number of treatments required prior to commencing treatment.
At each treatment, patients receive multiple small injections under the chin. The exact number of injections will depend on the amount of fat present and the patient’s desired profile.
Generally, a Kybella® injection treatment takes about 15 – 30 minutes. Following a Kybella® treatment, patients may expect some swelling, bruising, and/or numbness under the chin.
Patients being treated with Kybella® may receive up to 6 treatment sessions, spaced at least 1 month apart with many patients experiencing visible results within 2 to 4 treatments.
